Every year you take the family to your very favorite vacation spot in the entire United States. You have so much fun that you wonder what it would be like moving there? This becomes a topic of discussion for the entire year until you go back the next year, and the year after that. Is it logical to even think about doing this? After all, it is a major decision and a life changing one at that! Here is some of what you will probably need to know before making any plans.
1. What Is the Real Estate Market Like?
Whether you decide to buy or rent, one of the most important things to consider is the real estate market. Depending on where you want to go, some areas simply don’t have properties available in neighborhoods where you’d like to live or in areas of the city that are affordable. Then, you’ll need to consider the cost of moving an entire household perhaps several states away from where you currently reside. Make sure to find moving companies at the same time. You will need to factor that cost in as well. Try to stay with nationally known moving companies if at all possible. In fact, explore the United Van Lines review in this link. As one of the most reputable companies in the U.S., you will probably find the prices are quite competitive.
2. What Is Job Availability Like?
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could move to your favorite vacation spot that is also a place where employment abounds in your field? Perhaps that’s what led you there on vacation in the first place. For example, you are a web developer with years of experience and it just so happens that your favorite vacation destination is one of the nation’s leading hubs of technology. Maybe you always visit the Big Apple every year, not because NYC is home to Broadway, the Empire State Building, or a short ferry ride to the Statue of Liberty, but because it has some of the most exciting technology resources, not only in the U.S., but on a global level as well.
3. How High Is the Cost of Living?
This is another important factor in making the final decision whether or not to move to a new location and a new job. You will need to determine what the cost of living will be there relative to what you are paying now and also in terms of salary. If you are making less money and spending more just to live, it doesn’t make good sense to move at this time. However, if the differences are minor, then this may just be something you want to pursue.
4. What Is the School System Like?
If you have children in school anywhere from kindergarten through university, you will want to know what the school system is like in the city in which you intend to live. Take the time to check out both public and private schools to see what their academic ratings are. If it is a county school, the only thing you need to do is visit the county website. However, private schools may be a bit more difficult to research, but it can be done. It may take a little more effort, but you can do it.
5. Is the Crime Rate High?
Next on the list is what seems to be on everyone’s mind these days. That would be crime. Is the crime rate high in the place where you intend to move and are there any areas of the city with lower crime rates than others? Check out city, county, and state police to get a feel for how well you believe they would respond to 911 calls and also take the time to find and make friends of the locals on social media. This is probably where you’ll get the best sense of how safe you will feel if you move there permanently.

6. What Do Locals Do for Entertainment?
This may seem like a silly question to be asking but it is logical if you think about it. After all, if you are moving to Los Angeles, there are only so many times in the year you will want to visit Disneyland or Knott’s Berry Farm. When friending people in LA on Facebook, take the time to ask them what the locals do for entertainment. After a move of this magnitude, you’ll probably want a bit of R&R before jumping into your new job, so do have that lined up as well!
Once you have an answer to these six questions, you just might find that moving is doable! It will take a good deal of planning and the move won’t happen overnight, but isn’t it nice to dream about living in your favorite vacation spot 365 days a year?
